Extra cash to burn?

Pick up a copy (or more likely, download) of the brand new David Banner album “The Greatest Story Ever Told”-out today.

The album’s already garnered a smash hit single with “Get Like Me” featuring man of the hour Chris Brown. Despite Chris Brown’s pop connotations, the album is as gritty as ever; don’t worry, Banner’s not getting soft on us.

Don’t think Banner didn’t have a hand in making himself a business; he’s got MBA from the University of Maryland. Just a fun fact for you.

Wayne was wrong, it's 2 Milli

I know “enough with the whole a milli play”. Congrats are in order as Tha Carter III has officially been certified double platinum by the RIAA today, and is trending to hold steady at #1 on the Billboard chart. This will be Wayne’s third week at #1 (4 weeks total on the chart, knocked down briefly to #2 by Coldplay).

We’re definitely interested to see how far this album can go, and what this means for the music industry. I think music execs out there see a glimmer of hope in not only Wayne’s first week 1MM+ sales, but also in the longevity of the high numbers (3 weeks and counting of 100k + sold). If the music’s good enough and the buzz big enough…they will buy.

Attention Blue October AND Twilight Fans Alike

Blue October fans have had a rough year. Although they released Foiled For the Last Time, the re-issue didn’t feature any new music; only live tracks, remixes and a re-release of 2004’s “Calling You”. Since then the band has seemingly had a lull in activity, and that could be because lead singer Justin Furstenfeld has been working on somewhat of a side project…

It was never a secret that the master mind behind the cult-ishly successful book series Twilight was inspired by the band. With Twilight hitting the big screens as a full length feature film later this year, what better time for Furstenfeld to team up with his most famous fan?

The two will be heading out on the road together as the perfect antidote to the traditional “book tour” in support of Meyer’s latest release Breaking Dawn. The mini tour is so far only slated for 4 major markets at the tippy-top of August.

Furstenfeld describes the event concept best; “it's a really classy kind of thing going on here. It's not just a regular rock-and-roll show. It'll be some question-and-answer stuff about creative writing, how I write my poetry and how she writes her books. And I'll play a few songs, and we'll have a good time.”

Tickets go on sale June 21st at 10AM for a mere $20.

· 8/1 - New York City @ Nokia Theatre at Times Square
· 8/5 - Chicago @ Harris Theater
· 8/7 - Los Angeles @ Royce Hall

Motown Goes Indie

A few weeks back Vicarious had the privilege of announcing some good news for our friends Paper Route. Well, we’re back with even better news: their Universal Motown debut EP “Are We All Forgotten” was released this past Tuesday AND they’ll be out on tour all summer long.

The album’s name-sake track has been causing quite the chatter over the inter-web. Notoriously “too cool for school” music blogger Largehearted Boy even featured “Are We All Forgotten” as part of his coveted “Daily Download” slot. The track was flanked by such buzz-sters as Minutemen and Saul Williams-some good company to be in.

Let the EP wet your whistle for their live show. Whether you prefer to see them headline an intimate space, or are looking to squeeze that dollar by catching them as the opening act for Paramore, you’re in luck. Obviously down for the rigors of touring, Paper Route will be headline their own shtick for the month of July, and then meeting up with Paramore and Jack’s Mannequin for the August leg of their Final Riot! Tour.
